This is a piece of jewelry which we designed for
a rennaissance-themed wedding. The central element was a butterfly
design, which we planned to enhance with some rainbow
moonstones. A photocopy of the original sketch has been glued
to a sheet of silver. Each section that will be pierced out has
been drilled to allow us to insert a jeweller's saw
blade. |
|
A few pieces of wire are shaped and soldered to
give the design more definition and depth. The settings for the
moonstone cabochons are custom fit to each stone. |
|
To assist in making the wire frame a special jig is
constructed from wood dowelling. All three frame wires will be held
together with binding wire for soldering. |
|
After adding some more decorative
elements the frame is ready to form into a circlet. Two
charcoal blocks are used to keep it from opening up as the torch flame
relaxes the tension in the metal. |
|
A "third hand" device is used to position the wire arcs
for soldering. These will be the attachment points for beaded
strands. |
|
The central butterfly element is soldered onto the
circlet and a bezel rocker is used to set the rainbow
moonstones. |
|
Six beaded strands of various lenghths are
assembled. The colors are chosen to match the design of the wedding
dress |
|
The circlet is polished and the beaded strands are
attached. |
|
A one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry for a unique
wedding! |
